Pet-Free Hotels: How to Actually Find One

Because "pet-friendly" isn't always friendly.

Every major hotel booking site — Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Agoda — has a "pet-friendly" filter you can switch on. None of them have the opposite: a filter for hotels that don't allow pets. If you're allergic, sensitive, or simply prefer a pet-free stay, you're left reading each listing's fine print one by one, hoping the House Rules section actually mentions pets at all.

What to do instead

Short of installing GoNoGo, your options are: open each listing and search the page for "pet" in its House Rules or policies section, check the amenities checklist for a "pets allowed" entry, or message the property directly if nothing is stated. Directories vs. checking in real time

A few sites maintain hand-curated directories of hotels that don't allow pets, mostly covering the US. They're a reasonable starting point, but a static list has two limits worth knowing about: it depends on someone maintaining it as hotel policies change, and it only covers whatever region it was built for.
